Google Drive: My Best Friend and My Villain

Written by:

Google Drive and I are in a complicated relationship.
One minute, it saves my entire workflow.
Next, it refuses to load a file for no reason.

But the truth is, for podcast management, Google Drive is essential.

Sharing episodes, organizing drafts, sending scripts, storing backups; it makes collaboration simple… until it doesn’t.

Every editor knows these moments:

  • “Why is the file suddenly ‘processing’ again?”
  • “Where did that folder go?”
  • “Why is it downloading as webp?”
  • “Why does it say the file is too large when it wasn’t yesterday?”

Still, I wouldn’t survive without it.

Here are a few Drive rules that keep me sane:

✔ Create separate folders for each client
✔ Include dates in filenames
✔ Never rely on only one storage platform
✔ Keep local backups of everything
✔ Delete old duplicates regularly

Google Drive may be dramatic, but it keeps podcast production running smoothly, most days.

Some relationships are worth the chaos.
