Podcast Management: 50% Creativity, 50% Detective Work

Written by:

People think podcast management is all creativity, editing, writing, planning, designing. And yes, that’s a big part of it.

But the other half?
Detective work.

Where did that strange background hum come from?

Why did the mic peak at minute 12?

Who breathed directly into the microphone three times in a row?

Why is the guest suddenly echoing?

Where did that random clicking noise hide in the waveform?

Every episode has clues.

Every edit has mysteries.

And podcast managers become experts at solving them.

The creative side shapes the story.

The detective side protects the listener’s experience.

If you’re a podcaster doing everything yourself, here’s a simple tip:

Be curious, not frustrated.

Most audio issues have patterns, and once you learn them, they’re easier to fix.

The better you get at solving problems, the smoother your creative process becomes.
