The Art of Naming Podcast Episodes (Yes, it’s a real skill)

Written by:

Naming podcast episodes has become one of my unexpected superpowers. It sounds simple, just pick a title, right?

But anyone who has ever named an episode knows: the title matters.

A good title does three things:

  • Captures the essence of the conversation
  • Creates curiosity
  • Signals value to the listener

A bad title?
It disappears into the feed, unnoticed.

When I’m naming episodes, I think about the moment inside the conversation that made me pause, the sentence that carries the heart of the message. That’s usually the starting point.

Some episodes want big, bold titles.
Some want something soft or reflective.
And some want a line that punches right through the noise.

A title is the promise you make to your audience.
And a listener decides in two seconds whether that promise is worth clicking.

If you’re struggling with your own titles, here are simple prompts:

“What is the biggest takeaway?”

“What moment surprised me?”

“What question does this episode answer?”

Your title should speak directly to the listener’s curiosity.

And yes, naming episodes is absolutely a skill. One that makes a bigger difference than most people realize.
